About this class
Francis Whitacker, often called the Dean of American Blacksmithing, developed a grille as a challenge and teaching exercise for his more advanced students. VIB has temporary custody of the original grille featuring Whitacker's touch mark. While in VIB's possession, this class is designed to reproduce Francis' lessons for this generation's more advanced students. There are planned five individual core lessons where students will develop the tooling and order of operations for five identified elements in the grille. Students will be expected to perfect and build each element in their home shops between each core lesson and bring the resulting work on their return. Assembly of the final grille is expected at the last core lesson.
